The sharing of pointcloud data presents a challenge due to its size. Over the years working with many partners in Oil & Gas, Shipping and Construction industries we have evolved an effective strategy.

Project file .bce

This is “full” resolution model that typically has a very large size. There is a small metadata file that references several large binary data sets. The master copy of such a project can be archived on Azure, however, for faster performance it is currently best to download on local disk. The project has a lazy load, unload and reload mechanism that significantly helps dealing with large data sets.

Component file .bcec

This is a “full” resolution component file. Users can break up their model into several components and archive them on Azure. These components can be retrieved and imported into another project or an empty project.

DesktopView .bcex file

This is “medium” resolution file that contains the entire visible part of the projects. The user with master .bce file can generate any .bcex file. Typically our users have found useful to have a .bcex of size around 500Mb. Most engineers and designers find that it is adequate to have this resolution. This file can be stored along with Webdata, and opened BloomCE Desktop. It can be downloaded from Web application and LAN explorer.

WebView data – This is a highly compressed version that is suitable for viewing from the cloud using  mobile phones, tablets in the web browser. LAN explorer and Web application also use this data set.
